Founded in 2010, Omar Gandhi Architects (OG) operates from studios in Toronto and Halifax, Canada. The internationally recognized practice has built a distinguished portfolio of work, spanning residential architecture, innovative urban in-fills, medium to large-scale public projects, historic landscape interventions, and bespoke product design.
Guided by founder Omar Gandhi, the studio is known for a collaborative design process and architecture that often reveals unexpected and playful elements. Each project is crafted with a strong sense of individuality, expressed through unique forms, interiors, and material compositions.
“Our designs are rooted in the physical qualities of each site and the local architectural vernacular,” Gandhi explains. “We reinterpret the familiar by creating new relationships between buildings, landscapes, topography, and environmental forces. It is about designing new ways to experience place.”
At its core, OG’s approach is about uncovering creative opportunities within client briefs, absorbing site-specific and environmental characteristics, and reinventing established building forms and materials with bold yet refined design language. Every project is elevated by expert craftsmanship and exceptional attention to architectural detailing.
The practice’s acclaimed work includes the Schlotfeldt Residence in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, the Rabbit Snare Gorge cabin in Nova Scotia, and the transformative landscape intervention at Peggy’s Cove, a historic site on Nova Scotia’s coast.
OG has received 25 international awards in 2023–2024 alone, including Practice of the Year honors from Architizer, the Architects Newspaper Awards, and the Architectural Masterprize. Other notable accolades include the Canada Council for the Arts Professional Prix de Rome, Architectural Record’s 2018 Design Vanguard, and the Canadian Governor General’s Medal in Architecture. Founder Omar Gandhi was also named one of Monocle magazine’s Most Influential Canadians and has served as a Louis I. Kahn Visiting Assistant Professor at Yale School of Architecture.
