Janevca
Project Team:
On a quiet stretch of the Esquimalt shoreline, where the ocean breeze filters through towering trees and history clings to the architecture, Janevca quietly commands attention. Housed within the storied walls of the Rosemead House—an early 20th-century Tudor-style manor once home to the Old English Inn Janevca is more than a restaurant. It’s a restoration of memory, flavour, and place.
This is where West Coast serenity meets fire-driven culinary craft.
At the helm is Chef Andrea Alridge, a Top Chef Canada finalist whose cooking draws deeply from her roots and personal story. Her menu is a love letter to markets, family kitchens, and wood-fired simplicityanchored in techniques that honour tradition while embracing the bounty of Vancouver Island.
Here, meals are designed to be shared. Dishes like ember-roasted seasonal vegetables, charred oysters, and house-fermented sourdough speak to a philosophy of connection. It’s comfort cuisine elevated, not precious, but precise, served in a space where the warmth of the hearth mirrors the hospitality of the room.
Janevca doesn’t just sit on historic ground. It inhabits it fully, reviving the heritage of the Rosemead House through its textures, its pace, and its reverence for what came before. The original stonework, timber beams, and leaded windows remain, now softened by modern restraint and coastal ease.
This is a place that invites you to slow down and settle in. Whether it’s a long dinner with friends or a quiet drink by the fire, Janevca offers something rare: the comfort of something old, rediscovered through something beautifully new.
